Steel fabrication company Bolton Steel Structure has been working with Tamen Accountants (Formally Michael Sohor & Co Ltd) since the company was formed in 2007 and regards the accountancy firm as a trusted friend.

Bolton Structures Ltd is a separate fabrication facility while Metsites Ltd specialises in the fabrication and installation of architectural stainless steel and glass components. The former company, Orrell Martin Ltd, had worked with Tamen Accountants since the 1980s and Nick and his father were happy to continue with the association. “We initially became a client of Tamen Accountants because of the outstanding work they had carried out for the previous company. However, we soon found that the standard to which they carried out their services was exceptional and they were always at hand for any advice required. That was the main reason for continuing our association,” says Nick Maddison.
The companies now have their own in-house accounts department and use Tamen Accountants as auditors and advisors. The firm has been instrumental in helping develop and grow the three companies. “They deal with enquiries about our day-to-day accounts, payroll, VAT and tax and have always gone that extra step when required in obtaining professional services in other sectors for areas such as finance and contracts,” he says. Tamen Accountants has been a “saviour” through the Covid-19 pandemic with prompt advice on all aspects of business arrangements through lockdowns. “They advised me on how the furlough scheme worked, what help was available from HMRC with regards to VAT and PAYE deferrals and what finance was available through government backed schemes if required. “Michael Sohor reacted quickly to all changes in government guidelines and followed any announcement of changes with concise and detailed notes without which we might have struggled throughout the pandemic,” says Nick.
Nick also pays a personal tribute to the accountancy firm which has been with him through his journey from the workshop floor to managing director. “Tamen Accountants have continued to develop my understanding of accountancy and business development. My level of knowledge and current position are largely through the help and advice we have received from them – I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. “Some people would compare a visit to the accountants as being as pleasurable as a trip to the dentist. I see it more like meeting with an old friend,” he says.
